उत्तररामचरित – क्लिष्टो जनः किल

क्लिष्टो जनः किल जनैरनुरंजनीयः
    तन्नो यदुक्तमशुभं च न तत् क्षमं ते ।
नैसर्गिकी सुरभिणः कुसुमस्य सिद्धा
     मूर्ध्नि स्थितिर्न चरणैरवताडनानि ॥

kliShTo janaH kila janaiH anuranjanIyaH
    tanno yaduktam ashubham cha na tat kShamam te ।
naisargikI surabhiNaH kusumasya siddhA
    mUrdhni sthitirna charaNaiH avatADanAni ॥

People should always say good things to others who are in trouble. As much as possible they must reduce their trouble. So, there is no forgiveness for the harsh words that I have uttered and you don’t deserve it. A naturally fragrant flower has to placed on the head and not beaten up on by foot. (As told by Rama to Sita)

बहुमायासमाकीर्णः नानादोषसमाकुलः ।
लुप्तधर्मक्रियाचारः घोरः कालो भविष्यति ॥

किमत्र चित्रं यत्संतः परानुग्रहतत्पराः ।
न हि स्वदेहसौख्याय जायन्ते चंदनद्रुमाः ॥

na hi sva deha saukhyAya jAyante chandana drumAH ॥

What is strange in noble men always being busy in helping others? Sandal wood trees do not grow for their own good. They dedicate their whole lives for others.

किं भूषणं रुचिरमत्र यशो न रत्नं
     किं कार्यमार्यचरितं सुकृतं न दोषः ।
किं चक्षुरप्रतिहतं धिषणा न नेत्रं
    किं तापहारि मधुरं वचनं न पाथः ॥
